Habitat for Humanity of Kenosha
Habitat for Humanity of Kenosha builds homes using donated money, material and labor. Families in need of decent, affordable housing purchase these homes with a zero-percent interest mortgage. All payments made by the family are paid to the Kenosha affiliate, and are used to finance future homes.
Habitat homeowners must demonstrate their need, ability to make regular mortgage payments, and willingness to partner with the affiliate. Upon meeting these criteria, families must contribute over 350 hours of “sweat equity,” in the construction of their own home, construction of other homes, and in Habitat-sponsored courses on home maintenance and financial literacy. Habitat home ownership is an ongoing relationship, focused not only on the provision of housing, but the formation of community across boundaries of race, class and economic standing.
